I grew up in Tredegar on a local council estate, going to the local comprehensive school. I come from a mining and steelworking family who are spread right across the Blaenau Gwent constituency. For the May 2007 election I was a member of the Blaenau Gwent campaign team. Assisting at a grassroots level we campaigned in Abertillery, Beaufort, Brynmawr, Cwm, Nantyglo, Six Bells and Tredegar. Over 20 years Labour Party membership, since a teenager in the valleys. Former Organiser, Wales Labour Party, Transport House Cardiff. Former senior National Officer at Labour HQ, from 1993 - 1998 responsible for driving Labours membership growth to 400,000 in the run up to the 1997 General Election, and Secretary General of the EPLP. Former Campaigns Manager for the NSPCC, leading many campaigns e.g. a Childrens Commissioner, to help protect our children. Former senior Councillor and Executive member for Education on Camden Council - recognised as a top Council. CLP Secretary, Agent, Branch Chair & Treasurer. Currently Head of Policy for a national charity, working in the health sector and campaigning for people with communications disability. Formerly an International Democracy Adviser on campaigning and policy development. I worked all over the world for organisations such as the US Democrats Governor for a local nursery school. Strong trade union background (AEEU, T&G, GMB). Divorced with two children. Supporter of London Welsh Rugby Club. Member of local singing group. MSc in Economic Change from University of London.
